COPYEDITING
When I worked in Human Resources, I reviewed hundreds of resumes each year. Most were rejected within four to seven seconds. Why? Because they listed job duties instead of highlighting measurable accomplishments.
The same issue appeared in cover letters. Many focused on how the position would benefit the applicant rather than clearly demonstrating how hiring them would benefit the employer.
You need a resume that sells you — one that immediately shows employers how you can solve their problems and add value.
I use my expertise to craft resumes and LinkedIn profiles that are optimized to pass ATS screenings by strategically incorporating keywords that align with the job posting. More importantly, I focus on showcasing your accomplishments — not just listing duties — and clearly connecting your skills to the employer’s needs.
The results speak for themselves.
One applicant received an interview and job offer one week after submitting her rewritten resume! “Karyn, I’ll be working at a doctor’s office. I owe it all to your reworking of my resume.” Before this, she had been job-hunting for months with no success.
As part of your resume package, I will help you prepare effective, confident answers to key interview questions like: “Tell me about yourself” and “Why should we hire you?”

Have you ever wondered why commas and periods are placed inside double quotation marks but question marks, semicolons, and colons are placed outside? The reason is aesthetics, the desire for the type to appear attractive to the reader. Years ago, when type was set by hand using metal type (letters and punctuation) placed on a tray, each type had a fixed, uniform width. Placing the comma or period outside the quotation mark created a wide gap that was unpleasing to the eye and often caused the period to break, so the compositors (the people who placed the type on the tray) moved the commas and periods inside the quotation marks to make the print more attractive. Of course, type is set digitally now and the width of letters and punctuation marks is no longer fixed, yet the tradition of placing commas and periods inside quotation marks persists. Commas and periods go inside double quotation marks now, it seems, because that’s the way it has always been done.
What do you say when the interviewer says, “Tell me about yourself”? They don’t want your life story. Be sure to prepare an answer with information that shows YOU are the perfect employee for them. Contact me for help in preparing the correct answer to this question.
Always be positive in your interview.
If your resume lists your job duties and not your achievements, it is unlikely you will be called for an interview.
